Stuck on a specific island or running out of cash for ammunition? This comprehensive roadmap outlines the exact sequence of gear purchases, bait quests, and boss triggers needed to conquer all five stages with zero wasted currency.
Stage 1: Lighthouse Island (Escaping the Beach)
When you first awaken, your wooden vessel is marooned against the rocks. The Lighthouse Keeper holds the master Boat Keys, but refuses to surrender them without a cold drink and proof of your survival skills.
- Equip your Bamboo Starter Rod and catch 3–4 Clownfish off the wooden pier.
- Sell the clownfish to the Island Merchant for $12+ cash.
- Purchase a cold Can of Beer ($12) and hand it to the Lighthouse Keeper.
- Take the returned Empty Beer Can, attach it to your line, and cast near the lighthouse rocks.
- The Spider Crab emerges! Stand near a beach boulder. Sidestep when it winds up its charge so it hits the stone and enters a 4-second dizzy stun.
- Defeat the crab, collect the Crab Shell, and trade it for the Boat Keys!
Stage 2: Forest Island (The Piranha Swarm)
Follow the green radar blip across the misty ocean to reach Forest Island. This island shifts gameplay into heavy firearm combat.
- Do NOT fish for leeches in the river! Explore the dry trails on foot to pick up 3 wild Leeches.
- Fish freshwater channels to farm catfish until you reach $450 cash.
- Purchase the Pump Shotgun ($450) from Trapper Bob before triggering the boss!
- Trade your 3 leeches to the Lady by the Lake for the Modified Leech lure.
- Cast into the lake center. When the Giant Piranha and its minion swarm spawn, backpedal while discharging shotgun buckshot to obliterate minion clusters.
- Loot the Giant Piranha Skeleton to claim Desert Island radar coordinates.
Stage 3: Desert Island (Grill Master & Toxic Puffer)
Desert Island introduces the most important economic mechanic in the entire game: the Grill Master Cooking Station.
- Speak with the Grill Master first. Catch a Blue Shark using a Boss Lure and hand it over to permanently unlock 1.5x fish cooking.
- Catch an Endangered species (Needlefish, Seahorse, or Bowlfish) using standard lures around the turquoise reef.
- Deliver the endangered catch to the Stranded Tourist beneath the palm tree for Carrot Bait.
- Purchase the Submachine Gun ($650) to counter the boss's mobility.
- Summon the Giant Pufferfish with the Carrot Bait. Maintain continuous strafing to stay outside its toxic purple poison clouds while landing rapid SMG bursts.
- Claim the Pufferfish Fin to unlock Stage 4 Rocks Island.
Stage 4 & 5: Rocks Island to Molten Volcano Escape
On Rocks Island, purchase Heavy Braided Line to survive tension spikes and use the Pro Boss Lure ($1,200) to hook a raw Tuna. Place the fresh carcass on the rock slab to summon the flying Albatross, and take it down with the Scoped Sniper Rifle ($1,200).
On Volcano Island, speak with Chief Scientist Vance in his hazmat tent, catch 5 volcanic specimens with the Scientific Lure ($500), and unleash the Assault Rifle ($2,500) to melt the two-stage Mutated Bowhead Whale!
