How to defeat the final boss with your bare hands

Only the killing blow has to be a punch.

1. Fight the Mutated Bowhead Whale normally with the Assault Rifle.
2. Stop shooting when its health is very low.
3. Unequip everything.
4. Close in while it is on the ground and punch, staying clear of its slams and the lava pools.
5. Lay food out near the fight beforehand; melee range means you take more hits.

Handyman in multiplayer: what counts

The final hit on the Mutated Bowhead Whale has to be dealt by you with bare hands. Only 4.2% of players have it.

Easy Handyman: the Shotgun pellet trick

Players report a safer shortcut: the check seems to look only at how little damage the final hit does, so one 3-damage Shotgun pellet fired from a distance also works. Several players confirmed it in 1.1.x, but it is a player report, not an official rule.
