Bean Achievement: A Legit Route to Finish How to Fish in Under One Hour

Easiest way to get the Bean achievement: the route and splits

A focused run without glitches finishes in about 32 minutes, so the target splits leave almost half an hour of slack.

  1. Island 1, out by about 2 minutes: clams to $60, Knife, Beer and Crab-Fishing Rod, Spider Crab, keys. Skip the Radar and steer toward the sun.
  2. Island 2: pick up five or more leeches (spares sell), buy a Pistol, and finish the Giant Piranha with it after a Dynamite pile takes half its health.
  3. Island 3, arriving around 11 minutes: Standard Lures until an endangered catch, then the Pufferfish with an SMG or two 10 to 12 stick Dynamite piles. Skip the grill.
  4. Island 4, arriving around 16 minutes: fish Professional Lures to $1,200 to $3,000, buy the Professional Boss Lure and blow up the Tuna and the Albatross on Dynamite traps.
  5. Island 5, arriving around 25 minutes: five Beers for the scientist, Dynamite for the first whale, the crater, then the mutated whale; hand in the fin and leave.

What counts for the 1 hour achievement

Bean counts the save's playtime, not real time, so saving and quitting does not cost you minutes. It needs the ending, nothing else, and only 3.2% of players have it.

Start a fresh save on Easy: creatures have 75% health and fights end sooner, and Bean does not require Normal. Since patch 1.0.5 you cannot sail to islands you have not unlocked, so routes that skip islands no longer work.

Solo Bean achievement

Solo, the Dynamite traps replace most gun upgrades: they kill the Tuna, the Albatross and both whales quickly without the money for the late guns. Keep a meat chunk from each boss to eat; it refills hunger and health completely.

Bean achievement in a duo or group

In a group the order stays the same. Turn friendly fire off, split the money between players, and let whoever carries each quest item go straight to the NPC while the others start the next purchase.

Your own Dynamite can still kill you since patch 1.0.11, even with friendly fire off.

Patch 1.0.5 removed travelling to locked islands, so older island skips are invalid on current versions.
