How many islands are in How to Fish?

The story is five islands long. You wash up on the Lighthouse island, and each island's quest giver wants a boss killed and a piece of it handed in; the reward is the way to the next island. The Volcano is the last, and its quest ends the game.

How to get to the next island

There are five campaign islands: Lighthouse (1), Forest (2), Desert (3), Rocks (4) and Volcano (5). Version 1.1.0 added five mini islands on top (the Bow shop, Wishbone, Crab Carcass, Manta barrel and bottle money islets). They spawn at random while you sail and are never needed for the story.

You cannot sail to an island before it is unlocked; patch 1.0.5 closed that route. Each boss hand-in gives either the boat keys (Island 1) or a flash drive with coordinates, and the next island then appears as a new coloured dot on the $10 Radar.

How to Fish tips for every island

  • Only the boss part (shell, skeleton, fin, head or Whale Fin) finishes a quest; meat chunks are for money and food.
  • Kill a catch before throwing it at an NPC; live ones fight back.
  • Keep dead fish in your inventory or on the ground near a fight and eat them to heal.
  • Watch the white bar under a boss's health bar: when it empties, the boss escapes.
  • Unlock the grill on Island 3 early; cooking raises sale prices up to 1.5x.
