Islet Update Mini Islands: How to Find Them and Earn and Spend Euros

How the five 1.1.0 mini islands spawn, which of them pay euros, and what the euros buy.

Written for How to Fish 1.1.0+ (bait spawn, wishbone prices and radar dots adjusted in 1.1.2)All guides

Patch 1.1.0, The Islet Update, added five small islands, a second currency (euros), the Bow, the Manta mini-boss, the Crab Carcass bait and three achievements. None of it is needed to finish the story; it is a side loop where you collect euros on some islets and spend them on others.

Making a mini island appear

Mini islands have no fixed place on the map. Sail at least 250 m away from any main island and one of the five types spawns about 300 m ahead of your boat; they never appear within roughly 368 m of a main island. On the Radar they show as small yellow-orange dots, which patch 1.1.2 made larger and easier to spot.

Which of the five you get is random, so a trip usually means sailing out, checking what appeared, and moving on if it is not the one you want.

Where euros come from

Euros are a separate wallet shown above your dollars. You cannot convert dollars to euros. Three things pay out in euros:

  • Crab Carcass catches: €4 to €6 each.
  • Money in a bottle: €15 per bottle.
  • The Manta: about €60 base, more for a big one; players report €79 to €99 raw.

Sell these to any NPC and you receive euros. Your first euro unlocks the Bilingual achievement. Cooking still works on euro items, including the bottle, and raises their value the same way it raises dollar prices.

Crab Carcass islet: the euro fishing spot

Three low sand patches with bones scattered on them. Walk over the purple Crab Carcass pickups and press E; each player gets three per visit (patch 1.1.2 raised it from two).

Fit the Crab Carcass on the Fishing Rod and fish anywhere. It catches the eight euro creatures: Alaska Pollock, Tench, Char and Amberjack at about 14.7% each, Squid and Mahi-Mahi at 11.8%, and Starfish and Sponge at 8.8%. Each bite has a 20% chance to use up the carcass, so three carcasses last for about fifteen catches on average.

Bottle money islet: free euros and an achievement

A tiny sand island with a single palm tree. The Money in a bottle lies on the sand; each player can pick up one per visit. Picking it up unlocks Money in a bottle, and selling it gives €15.

Wandering NPC islet: the Bow shop

A rocky island with a small rampart, archery targets around it and a man in a green hood. He refuses dollars outright and trades only in euros.

The Bow costs €25. Arrow damage and draw-speed upgrades are also bought here with euros, and they get expensive quickly. Attachments for the Bow are still bought with dollars at the normal gun shops; a Red Dot Sight and Laser Sight are the setup players settle on, while the scope is not worth it. This islet also has its own slot machine with the bow skins. Killing any creature with an arrow unlocks Hobin Rood.

Wishbone islet: buy Drip chance

A ring of stone pillars in the shallows with a parkour route to the top, where the Wishbone sits. The jumps are fiddly, so take them slowly. Each Wishbone level adds 3% to your chance of hooking a Drip creature, from the base 10% up to 25% after five levels. The first level costs €5, and the five levels together cost €375 (the prices were adjusted in patch 1.1.2).

Manta barrel islet: the mini-boss

Two rocks joined by a wooden bridge, a stack of copper barrels and a sign telling you not to throw barrels into the sea. Push the loose black barrel into the water anyway and the Manta attacks. It is the best euro payout of the update; the full fight is in the Manta guide.

Resetting an islet

Pickups are per visit. Once you have taken the carcasses or the bottle, or used the barrel, sail away until the islet despawns and find another one; a fresh islet comes with fresh pickups.

Next: spend your first €25 on the Bow, then follow the Bow guide for upgrades and Hobin Rood.
