Albatross Boss (Island 4 Bird): Summon, Fight and Head

The bird boss is a sound-reading fight: a loud screech means a dive (get under cover), a quiet call means eggs (step out and shoot).

How to summon the Albatross

The Albatross is not fished: it lands on a dead Tuna.

  1. Catch and kill a Tuna with the Professional Boss Lure and keep the body whole.
  2. Buy and fit your Sniper Rifle kit first, and practise on the birds over the island.
  3. Drop the dead Tuna in the middle of the grass by the shop and wait about three seconds.
  4. Take the free shots while it lands, then move to the house beside the grass.

How to dodge the Albatross shartillery and dive

Its egg-dropping attack (the "shartillery") and its dive each have their own sound cue.

  1. Stay next to the house by the grass, or under the walkway or bridge.
  2. Loud screech: a dive is coming, so get under the house roof before it lands.
  3. Quiet call: it is dropping eggs from above, which gives you time to step out and shoot.
  4. When it circles behind a building, follow its red marker through the walls and shoot when it reappears, rather than chasing it into the open.

Safe Albatross strategy, solo and co-op

Solo, the house is your whole strategy: cover on the screech, fire on the call.

In co-op, take cover behind separate buildings: the bird chases one player at a time, and everyone it is not chasing can shoot freely.

Sniper Rifle or Dynamite for the Albatross

The Sniper Rifle ($3,800) is the weapon for this fight. Add the Suppressor, Laser Sight and Extended Mag and buy every bullet tier the gun store sells; the SMG is a backup.

Dynamite still works if your aim is good: surround the Tuna with sticks first, then shoot the pile the moment the Albatross touches down on the bait. It is hard to time, so keep the house as your fallback.

Albatross health

The Albatross has 7,800 health on Normal (75% on Easy, 125% on Hard).

Patch 1.0.10 fixed a bug where dying to the Tuna and then calling the bird could stop you from respawning.

Albatross head and the way to Island 5

Its meat chunks scatter ($1,000 each, worth cooking) and the small Albatross Head drops, sometimes offshore. Fetch an offshore head by boat rather than swimming.

Hand the head to the red-shirted islander in the Rocks shop; the flash drive he returns holds the volcano coordinates.
