Island 5 Volcano: Last Island Quest and the Ending

The final island is one chain: five creatures for the Fish Bucket, the Bowhead Whale into the crater, the Mutated Bowhead Whale, and the Whale Fin for the boat home.

Last island quest step by step

The scientist in the yellow hazard suit runs the final quest.

  1. Buy the Assault Rifle kit at the military supplies: rifle, maximum bullet damage, Extended Mag and extra slots.
  2. Give the scientist any five creatures (or five Beers) for the Fish Bucket.
  3. Fish up the Bowhead Whale with the Fish Bucket and kill it.
  4. Carry the body up to the crater rim and throw it in.
  5. Kill the Mutated Bowhead Whale that bursts out.
  6. Give the Whale Fin to the scientist, take the military boat keys and choose "Get back to the mainland".

What to buy on the volcano island

Military supplies sell every lure (including the Scientific Lure at $500 and the Scientific Boss Lure at $5,800), every weapon up to the Assault Rifle ($20,000), sharpening to 15, bullet tiers to 12, a fourth extra slot and all attachments.

Short on money? Scientific Lure catches sell for $1,360 to $2,200 raw.

Bosses on the final island

Two story bosses in a row: the Bowhead Whale, then the Mutated Bowhead Whale that it turns into in the crater. The optional Goblin Shark (Scientific Boss Lure) is also here and is the best single sale in the game.

How to get to the volcano island

Island 5 unlocks when the person in the Rocks shop gives you the flash drive for the Albatross Head. The Volcano then appears as a magenta dot on the Radar.

Since patch 1.0.5 you cannot sail to it before that.

Can I cook on island 5?

Yes. Throw a catch into a lava stream and it cooks for the same 1.5x as a grill, which matters because the Scientific Lure catches here are the most valuable regular fish.

The Scientific Lure pool bites here (Blobfish, Tripod Fish, Oarfish, Stonefish, Anglerfish, Superdwarf Fish), plus the Goblin Shark and both whales.

After the credits you wake up on Island 1 with your boat and every island still open, so you can keep going for collections and achievements.
